Up! Up! And Away!

Beautiful and amazing are two words that come to mind while viewing the Wings of The Web. These are photographs taken of various planes while in flight. The photos are very sharp. There is also an image of the shockwave generated as a plane breaks the sound barrier. It's like watching a science fiction film as the characters walk through a portal to another universe. The thing is this picture isn't fiction nor tricked out. It's real.

Watch the English Language Change Right Before Your Eyes

We've all heard comedians get laughs by slightly modifying a word pronunciation or misusing a word in a humorous fashion. But some of our language is changing because of popular mispronunciations and/or misinterpretations. At the Eggcorn database the original word or phrase is documented as well as its misuse or interpretation. Watch the language change. Fascinating for lexiphiles.

Condensed Philosophy

I have friends who are always quoting the great philosophers: Marcus Aurelius, Machiavelli, Descartes, Thomas Paine, and others. I never did get around to reading those guys because along with all their great ideas there seems to be a preponderance of excessive verbiage. Squashed Philosophers has come up with a solution. They have condensed the great works and compressed them down to their essence.

Image Searching with Yahoo!

Most folks know they can search for images with Google. But you can also find images using Yahoo! The display and search methods seem to be just about the same in Yahoo! as for Google. I searched for something with both of them and found a significant difference in the images found and the order in which they were presented. However the basic display (20 images in thumbnail) is the same for both search engines.

March is Women's History Month

Free Books

I don't have a PDA so I can't verify the info I've read at ManyBooks. Apparently they have digitized what seem to be thousands of books using the Project Gutenberg Project data. Most of the books listed are in the public domain. Since there are so many potential PDA formats, the first time a book is requested in a particular format it will be converted, cached and stored for viewing. The next time someone requests the book in the same format, it will be ready immediately.
